Note : This syllabus is based on earlier notification for Tamil Nadu Judicial Service. The exact syllabus for Tamil Nadu Civil Judge will be known only after Tamil Nadu Public Service notification for Civil Judge. But there will not be major change, thus preparing in line with earlier notification will be the best way to prepare in advance.

SYLLABUS AS PER 3 STAGES OF TAMIL NADU CIVIL JUDGE EXAMINATION?

STAGE 1 : Preliminary Examination : This is the first stage of the exam

Maximum Questions asked :  100 Questions

Maximum marks : 100 marks

Time given :  3 Hours

THUS! Optimum time to be taken for each question - 1 min 8 seconds 

IMPORTANT - Negative marking 0.25 for every wrong answer

PART-A : The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908

The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1981

The Transfer of Property Act, 1882

The Indian Contract Act, 1872

The Specific Relief Act, 1963

The Constitution of India

The Tamil Nadu Buildings (Lease and Rent Control) Act, 1960

and Tamil NaduRegulation of Rights and Responsibilities of Landlords and Tenants Act, 2017 (TamilNadu Act 42 of 2017)

 

PART-B

The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973

The Indian Penal Code, 1860

The Indian Evidence Act, 1872

The Criminal Law (Amendment) Acts

The Criminal Minor Acts (including Information Technology Act, 2000;

TheProtection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012).

 

PART-C General Knowledge (Degree standard),Test of Reasoning and Mental ability (S.S.L.C. standard)

 

STAGE 2 : Main Examination (Descriptive Type)

 

Paper - I Tamil Eligibility Test* (SSLC Std) (100 marks/2 hours)

 

Paper -II : Translation Paper : Translation of passages from English to Tamil and from Tamil to English. The passages will be from Pleadings, Depositions, Orders, Judgments  Documents.

Paper -III : Law Paper-I : The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908; The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; The Indian Evidence Act, 1872; Principles of pleading andthe Constitution of India (as Amended).

Paper -IV: Law Paper-II : Framing of Issues and Writing of Judgments in Civil Cases.

 

Paper -V: Law Paper-III : Framing of charges and Writing of Judgments in Criminal Cases

Time Given for : Paper-II, III, IV and V : 100 marks / 3 Hours

 

STAGE 3 : Viva-Voce Test : 60 Marks.
